Tea House in Stanley Park Wedding on New Years’ Day | Linnie + Nico

Linnie and Nico just moved to Vancouver and now have the distinction of being our first wedding of 2012. Beginning their life together in a new city, they decided to have a New Years’ Day wedding in the most iconic of places, Stanley Park. Their day began with Linnie having her hair and make-up done by the talented Ai Nagasawa, then getting ready at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in a room that offered spectacular views of the the inlet as Linnie put on her white sari dress.  Linnie and Nico traveled separately  to the Brockton Point Lighthouse in a vintage white Rolls Royce. The weather report had indicated rainy skies all week and we had pretty much expected that was what we were going to get. But Linnie, being the eternal optimist, predicted sun, and that’s exactly what we got. Just as Linnie and Nico finished their vows, the sun appeared through the thinning clouds: it was magical.

After the ceremony, Linnie and Nico held their first dance at Brockton Point and sent photos of the wedding to their families in Berlin, Germany, where they had their own virtual wedding in honor of Linnie and Nico. There were several emotional moments during the wedding, but one of the most memorable was when Linnie read a letter from Nico’s parents welcoming her into their family. We spent the rest of the afternoon taking photos in Stanley Park before retreating to the Tea House in Stanley Park for their lunch reception. The wedding was small and intimate, but everything turned out as perfectly. Videography was provided by Geoff and Naomi from Weddings in Motion Below are just a handful of photographs from their New Years’ Day wedding.

Christmas in Cabo

This Christmas, we traveled down to Los Cabos for a vacation and visited a number of amazing places. We literally, only saw the tip of the Baja peninsula, touring destinations such as San Jose Del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, and Todo Santos. Baja California Sur is an amazing place; actually, it’s a magical place – dry dessert surrounded on both sides by two bodies of water, the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez – The well known “El Arco” is only beach on the planet with two major bodies of water on either side. Try driving on the highway through the cactus-filled dessert while listening to the “Drive” movie soundtrack, it’s pretty trippy.

Spending Christmas in Mexico was quite a strange treat. On the one hand, it’s warm, with blue skies and dessert-like conditions. On the other hand, there are Christmas decorations everywhere to remind you of home and you see people in Santa outfits despite temperatures in the mid-20s. Spending time in Todo Santos was the best part of the trip. It’s about an hour and a half drive from Cabo San Lucas, but well worth the trip to this sleepy artsy town, made famous, in part, by artists such as Charles Stewart (1922 – 2011) and Hotel California (which is famous for some reason, but not really because of the the Eagles song by the same name). We also attempted to do some celebrity spotting, but no luck (although I think I saw Wolf Blitzer at the airport on our way home), maybe next time.

The last few photos are some of my favorites. Liam somehow figured out there was a ice cream parlor in Todo Santos and peeked through the window – That’s actually him trying to pull himself up to take a peek inside Rocco’s. Sophia just had to get him an ice cream bar after that, which he pleasantly enjoyed on a bench just outside the parlor.

What a beautiful little boy you have, Daniel! I can’t believe how big he is.

Who says it rains all the time in Vancouver. Apparently not this past autumn. We had some amazing Indian summer days in late October and Jen and Pat took full advantage of one beautiful afternoon, where we hung out and took these photographs. Jen and Pat are having a destination wedding next year, so they’re going to have plenty of sunny photos to look back on in the years to come. Jen and Pat created a ton of awesome photos and I just don’t know where to begin to show them all. This is just volume one, and there’s more to come.
